Clinic Doctors | LASIK/LASEK
Wheaton Eye Clinic doctors are at the forefront of laser surgery and perform more operations than any other privately operated eye clinic in Illinois. We now use Wavefront-Guided Laser Technology to help doctors measure the eye ever more precisely in order to make successful surgical corrections in a wider range of circumstances.
LASIK is a way for an eye doctor to permanently correct near-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism by using a surgical laser. In the typical LASIK procedure, a flap is cut from the outer edge of the cornea. The flap is then lifted, laser correction is applied and the flap is replaced. LASIK is the most common laser eye surgery being performed today.
Due to certain conditions that may exist in the eye, LASIK is not a solution for everyone. A newer procedure, called LASEK, is an alternative technology that provides laser surgery results for people who may not be a candidate for LASIK. LASEK works without the need for cutting. Instead, a solution is applied to the exterior of the eye which allows the doctor to move the epithelium (outer layer) of the eye down, perform the laser correction and then slide the epithelium back into place.
