What is a Contact Lens Exam?
When an optometrist at Wheaton Eye Clinic examines your eyes, he or she will spend time talking with you about past experiences with contacts and any special health conditions you may have. It is recommended, especially for contact lens wearers, an exam be performed annually to maintain optimum eye health.
Wheaton Eye Clinic Optometrists follow a four-step process
to help each patient acquire and use contact lenses successfully.
1. In an initial exam, the Optometrist
will examine your eyes to determine if you can wear contact
lenses. Your eyes are measured and contacts are tried on
for comfort and proper vision correction. Any special needs
are determined at this time and are factored into the final
specified lens.
2. When the lenses are ready, a fitting examination is scheduled
as a practice session for you to try your new lenses and
also to become adept at lens
insertion and
removal.
3. A checkup exam is scheduled 2-3 weeks after the practice
session.
4. Another checkup at the six-month anniversary.
