Botox is a protein that weakens and inactivites muscles that wrinkle the skin. It can be used in the upper third of the face to reduce or eliminate forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows and crows feet around the eyes. It does not fill in the lines but relaxes the muscles that cause these lines and, over time, the furrows and wrinkles soften as well. Botox treatments take about 20 minutes and the results are seen within three or four days. After the first set of treatments, patients may return when they notice a return in muscle movements, often not for three or four months. If a patient chooses not to continue treatments, the facial lines revert to their pre-treatment appearance.
