loves the medical setting of an ophthalmic office more than
the high volume retail atmosphere of other optical businesses.
Why? “Because I really like to work one-on-one with
patients and our doctors. I enjoy working through the finer
points of complex prescriptions.”
“Recently one of my patients was looking for glasses to wear at work, including many hours each day at his computer. He needed one prescription for close work and a different prescription for intermediate vision tasks like conducting meetings. He also needed distance correction for driving. He was more than willing to have two pairs of glasses, but didn’t want to keep switching glasses at work. I was able to transpose the doctor’s prescription by taking a flat-top bifocal, which would normally be distance on the top and close on the bottom, and, instead, made the top intermediate and the lower lens close. Suddenly my patient could use a single pair of glasses in the office for both close and intermediate work. He has a second pair of glasses for distance use. It was a unique, but perfect solution; he was thrilled and frankly, I felt great making him so happy.”
