Laura F.

Laura F. began working in an optical lab while still in high school, making lenses for her optometrist neighbor. She continued her work, but as an optician for a large optical retail chain, as she completed four years of college. Upon graduation from Wheaton College, Laura married and joined the Wheaton Eye Clinic optical department in Wheaton.
“The opticians here know so much more than those I used to work with,” Laura says. “It really helps to be surrounded by such knowledgeable co-workers since the prescriptions here tend to be much more complex than the basic run-of-the-mill requests large chain stores handle.
I really like dealing with people as opposed to having a job dealing with reams of paper. I think opticians provide the ultimate customer service because every patient has very different needs and desires. My job is to evaluate each situation, give my professional opinion of the various options which will help the person see better, and then make sure the patient gets that improved vision.”
When Laura is not working with her patients, she can be found playing park district softball, horseback riding or working in prison ministry through her church. |
