Ruth D. Williams, M.D. specializes in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, a disease characterized by increased pressure in the eye and vision loss.
Dr. Williams received a B.S. degree in Biology from Wheaton College and her M.D. degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago. Following an internship at West Suburban Hospital Medical Center in Oak Park, Illinois Dr. Williams completed her residency in ophthalmology at California Pacific Medical Center and a fellowship in glaucoma at the University of California in San Francisco.
Dr. Williams is Chief Medical Editor of EyeNet Magazine and Vice-chair of Glaucoma Research Foundation. She served as president of Wheaton Eye Clinic for eight years, as president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2012, and as chair of the Surgical and Specialty Section of the American Medical Association. She is an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Williams has given many named lectures nationally and internationally, and is a national spokesperson on ophthalmic, ethical, and healthcare policy issues.
Dr. Williams is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Williams is an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Glaucoma Society, the Chicago Glaucoma Society, Women in Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
