Dr. Wingard specializes in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and cataracts. He performs advanced small-incision cataract surgery, including premium lenses to correct astigmatism and presbyopia. He has completed thousands of glaucoma surgeries and is particularly interested in MIGS, or minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, including Trabectome, XEN gel stent, 360 degree goniotomies, and many others. His practice includes the most complex cataract surgeries and the full range of laser and surgical treatments for adult glaucoma.
Dr. Wingard received his medical degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Wheaton College, earning a B.A. in Ancient Languages. Following internship in Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, Dr. Wingard completed residency and glaucoma fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he also served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Wingard remains involved in research and writing, with numerous publications of glaucoma research, textbook chapters, lectures at national meetings, and several research awards. During medical school he was granted a prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellowship to conduct scientific research at the University of Pennsylvania in the vaccine laboratory of the 2023 Nobel Prize laureate in Medicine.
