Baylor University College of Medicine Names Dr. Richard Gieser Humanitarian of the Year

Wheaton Eye Clinic’s own Dr. Richard Gieser was named Humanitarian of the Year by Baylor University College of Medicine, his alma mater. He received the award for teaching retinal surgery in medical schools of developing countries annually since 1975.

Dr. Gieser started his work in Afghanistan and has taught in 15 countries. His last seven service trips have to be Khartoum, Sudan. In addition to this prestigious award, Dr. Gieser has been awarded the Outstanding Humanitarian Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2000. He also received the title Clinical Professor Emeritus from Loyola Medical School after 37 years on its faculty.
